7 CODE OF CONDUCT EVERY AMAZON SELLERS NEED TO KNOW

Selling on Amazon? Planning to sell on Amazon? Have you heard about the Amazon seller code of conduct?

Don’t worry, we make that simple. Let’s take a look at Amazon’s code of conduct that you really need to consider.

AMAZON CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SELLERS

1. PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION

Make sure the information you provide to Amazon is correct and accurate. You need to provide a proper business name and list your products in the correct category.

Don’t try to mislead your customers with the information you provide on your listing.

Ensure you update your information frequently if there are any changes made.

2. UNFAIR PRACTICES

Don’t indulge in practices such as:

  • Creating multiple pages for the same product or posting offensive product images.

  • Manipulating sales rank or making claims about the sales rank in the product title or description.

  • Increase the price of a product after an order is confirmed.

  • Using bots or paying for clicks to artificially inflate traffic.

  • Damaging another seller

  • Making other people act on your behalf to violate Amazon’s policy.

3. MANIPULATING REVIEWS

On Amazon, connecting with customers is not that easy. And, when it comes to reviews there are many rules in place which you need to take into consideration.

Amazon states that you may request feedback and reviews from the customers who purchase your product in a neutral manner.

But, you’re not supposed to:

  • Ask your customers to write only positive reviews.

  • Offering an incentive such as coupons or free products or any other type of payment or compensation in exchange for providing or removing feedback or reviews.

  • Ask them to remove or change a review.

  • Selectively ask for reviews only from the customers who had a positive experience.

  • Post review to your own products or your competitor’s products.

It’s known that reviews play a crucial role in customer buying decisions. With that in mind Amazon being a customer-centric e-commerce platform having strict rules in place that you never need to ignore.

4. COMMUNICATION

Amazon stated that you may not send inappropriate or unsolicited messages to customers. However, as said earlier you’re allowed to ask for neutral reviews only to your customers.

If you’re fulfilling orders by yourself and handling customer service by yourself, you’re allowed to communicate only through Buyer-Seller Messaging.

And remember you’re not allowed to carry any kind of marketing communications such as promoting your products or offering discounts.

5. CUSTOMER INFORMATION

Being a customer-centric platform, Amazon is very concerned about its customers.

If you’re fulfilling orders by yourself, you may use customer information such as address or phone numbers only to fulfill orders and not for any other purpose.

You may not use their information to contact customers or share it with any third party.

6. DON’T DIVERT CUSTOMERS

Amazon wants its shoppers to stay on its website.

You’re not supposed to provide links that make users visit any external website or any social media platforms rather than Amazon or make them complete a transaction on your own website.

7. MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS

You may only have one Seller Central account for each region. However, if you want to operate multiple accounts you need to give them a legitimate business reason.

Examples of a legitimate business justification include:

  • You own multiple brands and maintain separate businesses for each

  • You manufacture products for two distinct and separate companies

  • You are recruited for an Amazon program that requires separate accounts

And all of your accounts are in good standing, if not, Amazon may deactivate all of your selling accounts until all accounts are in good standing.
